A state where the body’s immune system is weakened, either from illness or medications.
Examples:
- Organ transplant medications
- Chemotherapy
- Advanced chronic illness
How it relates to nails:
A weakened immune system makes fungal and bacterial nail infections more likely and harder to treat.
Confusable with:
Normal fungal nail infections that also occur in healthy individuals.
