Definition (plain English):
Any condition that affects the liver’s ability to function, such as cirrhosis, hepatitis, or fatty liver disease.
Ejemplos:
- Cirrhosis (scarring of the liver)
- Chronic hepatitis
- Alcohol-related liver disease
How it relates to nails:
Liver disease may cause Terry’s nails (whitish nails with a darker band at the tip), ridging, or thinning.
Confusable with:
Kidney disease (Lindsay’s nails), hypoalbuminaemia (Muehrcke’s lines).
